                                                                 Contact Rachel L. Rust

Rachel L. Rust is of counsel to Wadler, Perches, Hundl & Kerlick.  Ms. Rust has been a practicing attorney licensed with the State Bar of Texas since 1995 and with the Virginia State Bar since 1996.  She represents individuals in a wide range of family law matters, including pre-nuptial and separation agreements, divorces, custody modifications, probate issues, collaborative law, and she conducts mediation.  Ms. Rust works to resolve issues in ways that are respectful and productive.

Before returning to her hometown of Wharton, Ms. Rust was a partner with the firm of Tremblay and Smith, LLP, in Charlottesville, Virginia, primarily practicing in areas related to family law.  She served as Chair of the Family Law Section of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Bar Association, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Ms. Rust was a founding member of the Virginia Collaborative Professionals, and she was elected to Best Lawyers in America in 2007.

Ms. Rust is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and before law school, provided counseling to families and children as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Dallas.  This background uniquely qualifies her to represent clients dealing with the emotional stresses associated with many family law issues.

A fifth-generation Texan, Ms. Rust graduated from Wharton High School in 1974.  She was awarded a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Texas in 1978, and she received a Master of Science degree in Special Education from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1981 and a Master of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1983.  Ms Rust was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1995.

Ms. Rust is a member of the Texas State Bar Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections, the State Bar of Texas College, the Association for Conflict Resolution, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, The Collaborative Law Institute of Texas and the Wharton County Bar Association.

Ms. Rust is a member of the school board for WISD, volunteers as a mentor in the IMPACT program of the Wharton Boys and Girls Club, and she serves on the Board of Directors of Mental Health America of Texas, a non-profit organization advocating for solutions to mental health issues facing Texans.  Ms. Rust is married to Paul Sherland, and they call Wharton home.
